RocketGro receive Sarah Dyke MP for Glastonbury & Somerton at their farm and bagging plant.

Sarah Dyke is the driving force within parliament to have the Peat ban brought into law, and RocketGro are thrilled that Sarah chose to visit and learn more about how RocketGro are leading the way in producing a reliable Peat-Free range of products that delivers on price, consistency, effectiveness and an all round Organic eco message that consumers want.

Sarah Dyke commented: “It was very useful to visit RocketGro and see first-hand the work being done here in Somerset to produce peat-free growing media, alongside the farm’s wider use of renewable energy and resources.

“Somerset is one of only two counties in England where peat extraction continues, despite the vital role our peatlands play in storing carbon and supporting nature. The horticultural industry needs a clear direction of travel from Government if we are to protect these irreplaceable habitats while giving businesses the certainty they need to invest and adapt.

“Companies such as RocketGro demonstrate that British-produced, peat-free alternatives are already being developed here in Somerset. What is now missing is clarity from Ministers.

“I have written to the Government asking it to set out a clear timetable for ending the sale of horticultural peat and to provide the certainty growers, producers and consumers need to make that transition successfully.

“I would like to thank Toby, Tim and Andy for taking the time to show me around and discuss both the opportunities and challenges facing the sector.”

RocketGro Managing Director Toby Thomas commented: “We are delighted that Sarah came to visit us. We have been in contact with Sarah for some time, assisting with information sharing and updates around our success and the viability of our message, products, range and story.

“RocketGro are a truly great representation about what is possible when Peat is taken out of the growing media chain. We have never touched Peat as a business, and in a county (Somerset) that has mined so much Peat over the centuries, and still to this day actively mines and destroys Peatland habitats, the story is even more powerful. We look forward to the Peat ban coming into force. Having invested huge sums in building our business and preparing for our continued year on year growth of 30%, we have the capacity in place and are ready for the ban to go live.”
