Frequently Asked Questions

Delivery

We ship orders every weekday with Parcelforce & DPD, on a 25 and 48 hour courier service, so please allow 3 working days after ordering for delivery.

All orders over £33 of product (after any discount code/coupon has been applied) qualify for a P&P fee of only £3.99 in total for mainland UK.  Below £33, P&P is £5.99 per item ordered.

Unfortunately, being a heavy bulky product, we have to pass on surcharges levied to us for out of area delivery per order as a one time per order fee as follows above £33:

Northern Ireland £15.

Channel Islands £15.

Scottish Highlands & Islands £15.

Isle of Man £15.

Isles of Scilly £15.

Unfortunately this is the categorisation that Parcel Force labels this part of Scotland for delivery purposes.

When we ship your order, you will be sent a Shipping Confirmation text message, which will contain a link for you to track you order via the Parcelforce or DPD website or App. You will only receive this if you have entered a mobile number when ordering. A land line will not receive the text messages.

You can rebook a delivery day via the Parcel Force tracking page (google search ‘parcel force tracking’) using the tracking number you will have received by text message, but a Parcel Force delivery will always be left in a safe place or on your doorstep if the driver deems it safe.

Normally, Parcel Force will repackage or mend the box and then send out again within a couple of days. If the damage is to the product itself (very rare) then it will come back to us and we will send you a fresh parcel. If your parcel tracking says parcel returned to sender please do email us and let us know so that we can stay on top of it.

Parcel Force will ALWAYS try and leave your parcel on your door step or in a safe place. If they deem the front of your house to be unsafe to leave a parcel due to potential theft, they will take it away and try to redeliver the next day.

This happens occasionally. Please send us photos of your product to our email address and we will process a fresh order for you asap.

In the extremely unlikely event you are not satisfied with our products, you may return it to us in its original condition any time within 14 calendar days from the date of dispatch. Please contact us to organise a return at hello@rocketgro.co.uk

If you return a product under our goodwill returns policy, you will receive a full refund of the price paid for the product, but you will not receive a refund of the original delivery charges or the cost of returning the product to us. We will endeavour to process your refund within 14 Working Days of receiving the product back. For further information, please refer to our T&C’s

Unfortunately, as we are a busy farm and industrial yard, we cannot accommodate customers on site to collect products.

This depends on moisture content, but are approximately 10-14Kg each, quite easy to handle in your garden.

All our bags contain 30% recycled plastic, and are recyclable alongside supermarket plastic bags, although not in all kerbside collections yet. If you can rinse off any left over compost in the bags that will increase the chance that they do get recycled.

DPD will never leave a parcel if the customer is not in. If you have entered a mobile number when ordering, DPD will text message you and keep you well informed about your delivery, and subsequent re-delivery attempt.

Coupon Code Usage

The website will never allow the use of two coupon codes for one order.

This is possibly because you have used it once before. And perhaps do not recall. If you are new to RocketGro, please try and place your order on a different computer, tablet or device and the code should work. It can only be used one time per customer.

If you have chosen a bulk bag or part or full pallet of product we cannot accept coupon codes at greater than 10% in value for those items. The reason being that these larger items on our website are already heavily discounted.

Product

The Organic material in our products is perfect for using on all garden soils, and is much better than peat for the garden and for the environment too.

Mulching Use our Magic Mulch all year round applied as a layer on top of the soil around the base of plants to restrict weeds, conserve water, keep roots protected in Winter and slowly feed. Great as a no-dig solution for the health of your beds.

Soil Improving All soils, especially heavy clay soils, will benefit from digging in our Soil Improver at any time of the year, to increase organic matter content, add bioactivity to the soil to stimulate roots and to slowly feed the soils

Our Potting Composts, which are all peat-Free, are specially screened for size, and blended to give the right balance of air spaces, and water holding, depending on what your are growing in pots:

  • Seedlings and cuttings and small plants – use Seed & Cutting Compost
  • Larger Pots, tubs, hanging baskets and planters – use Multipurpose compost
  • Fruit bushes & trees in soil or pots – use Fruit & Vegetable Compost
  • Lime hating (acid loving plants) like Rhododendron in pots or soil – use Ericaceous Compost

Our Seed & Cutting Compost is ideally suited for house plants. To avoid any little gnats coming to visit your house plant it is important to not over water, and always use a pot topper, or bug catcher such as the products for sale on our website under house plant essentials in the shop.

Our multi-purpose compost is ideal for hanging baskets.

We recommend our Fruit & Veg compost as an ideal compost for successfully growing fruit and vegetables. If planting young seedlings, seeds or cuttings, always start their lives in a good Seed & Cutting Compost, then transfer into the richer Fruit & Veg Compost.

Yes they are all 100% synthetic chemical free and totally natural.

All our products are 100% organic and natural, and contain no nasty additives, so are 100% safe for children and pets straight after use. They also contain no chemicals, so are safe for bees, butterflies and all those lovely soil microbes.

In fact, as they are made from natural farm crops we grow on our land, our products are certified by the Soil Association as approved for Organic Growers.

Yes worms love our products! In fact we have seen a significant increase in worm count over the years on our farmland where we spread our products.

Yes all our compost products, soil improver, tomato planters, mulch, lawn feed, liquid feed are Vegan friendly. Everything we produce is Vegan friendly apart from the two manure products.

When you open the bag and you first use our products (especially on a warm day), there is a natural earthy compost aroma (which can be mistaken for a manure smell), which disappears quickly after rain or watering. We do not use animal products in any of our products (apart from the 2 manure products).

When growing in pots we recommend using a pot saucer. The water that runs through the pots after rain or watering may initially be brown in colour. This is perfectly natural, washing through the natural colouring of our digestate. This may stain lighter coloured patio slabs for a short period, but will wash off with rain in a few weeks.

We do suggest wearing gloves and washing your hands straight after use when using our products as with all gardening products.

The beauty of all RocketGro bagged products is that they all contain low levels of Nitrogen (N) , Phosphorous (P) and Potassium (K), also known as NPK. These ensure healthy roots, shoots and flowers. These are Organic and natural, not added, so will slowly release to the plants over the first 3 months.

We recommend using a liquid feed regularly in the growing season in pots, so you can adjust the feeding to suit the crops being grown.

No, our composts hold moisture for longer because of their natural fibre content. But the surface can dry out more quickly than a Peat based compost.

The natural organic fibre content should re absorb water, but having let the surface dry out and become crispy, it can be tough to rewet. Our advise is water little and often to avoid this. If it does dry out on the surface, then very gentle surface watering repeatedly can re wet the compost. However it is important not to over water. Put your finger into the compost. If it feels damp, it does not need more water.

Yes they may do. Clearly allowing the pots to completely dry out is not good for the plants. But as long as the bulk of the compost in the pot remains damp you do not need to be concerned.

Yes they will, our composts perform really well on this measurement, particularly compared to Coir products.

RocketGro products are rich. That richness is locked up inside the bags and can be quite strong at the point the bags are opened. Therefore opening the bags the day before use, and making sure a polytunnel or green house is well ventilated, particularly on hot days, is advisable.

We have an equal number of customers telling us our products hold water really well to those that tell us they do not, so it really comes down to watering technique we believe.

The confusion can be that we tend to see over watering happen quite often because the compost can appear to be dry on top, just right half way down, and water logged at the bottom because of over watering. Customers assume that the surface dryness means the compost needs more water. Usually it does not.

The concern for us can be that customers end up flooding the base of pots and planters and drowning the roots which may damage growth. Over watering tomato plants also means the tomatoes are less sweet.

To keep our compost damp, we recommend surface watering little and often for pots and tomato bags. This means the compost will not dry out on the surface, and the bottom will not become waterlogged.

Many customers also report that bottom up watering works best for them with Peat-Free, but that means accepting the surface will appear dry. Either way it is very important not to over water.
